Perhaps you thought you missed out on the chance to see an A-list Hollywood actor take on Shakespeare this spring…well, think again! Just one block up the road (literally) from where Tom Holland is playing a sold-out Romeo and Juliet, acting titan Sir Ian McKellen is starring in Player Kings, a condensed adaptation of Henry IV (parts 1 and 2). Alongside McKellen are Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso) and Richard Coyle (Fantastic Beasts) in what’ s being promoted as a contemporary staging of the history play.
The best part is that plenty of tickets are still available, with special £30 tickets available for those lucky enough to be in the “under-30s” crowd. A quick glance at dates for the show’s London run shows these tickets to be clustered mainly in the Grand Circle and Balcony, but a few tickets are still left at the Royal Circle level. Player Kings is on at the Noël Coward Theatre through June 22, concluding with a brief run in Bristol, Birmingham, Norwich, and Newcastle. Non-concessionary tickets are available here.
